Mini-pitch a constant attraction at Fan Zones during youth FIFA World Cups
The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica is now over, and 284,329 spectators saw some great matches during the 21-day competition. The total number of spectators not only set a new attendance record for a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup but was also proof of the Costa Rican people’s enthusiasm for football.
To create a central meeting place for all football fans, the Local Organising Committee set up a charming Fan Zone in Parque Central in the San Jose city centre in cooperation with the tournament sponsors. The Fan Zone was a popular attraction for all inhabitants of San Jose for the entire tournament, giving them the chance to participate in activities at booths or watch one of many concerts.
Mini-pitch in Fan Zone attracts children
Since 2012, FIFA’s Preferred Producers have been supporting FIFA and LOCs in the construction of Fan Zones by providing mini-pitches. This time, FIFA Preferred Producer FieldTurf Inc. installed a mini-pitch in San Jose to give children, in particular, a chance to play football and experience the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in an entirely different way.
